I am so excited to serve as Carver's Learning Design Coach this year! My role is to facilitate the implementation of the GISD Strategic Framework, Learner Profile, and design qualities to create meaningful work that is student centered. I will support teachers by providing personalized professional development, goal-setting, coaching, and being a collaborative educational resource.

Education and Experience:  I graduated with a Bachelor of Science degree in Journalism from the University of Texas at Tyler. I received my Master of Education degree in Advanced Literacy from Concordia University at Austin. My teaching experience includes Pre-K, Kindergarten, 1st grade and 4th grade. This is my 1st year with Georgetown ISD, and my 20th year in education.

My name is Rebecca Barnes and I am very excited to be a Learning Design Coach this year. This is my 21st year here at Carver Elementary.  Six of those years was as a Carver parent where I served on the PTA Board and as PTA President.  During that time, I taught Pre-K at the Learning Tree for 4 years, a Pre-K Paraprofessional here at Carver for 4 years, 8 years in second grade, and then as a fourth grade math & science teacher.  I graduated from Boston University with a B.S. in Broadcasting and Film and have worked on several productions that won Emmys and even an Academy Award.  I have certifications in Elementary Education, English as a Second Language and Gifted and Talented.  I have been married to my wonderful husband Dana for 30 years. We have two daughters, Raleigh and Brenna who are also former Carver kids. Raleigh went on to graduate from Georgetown High School and Brenna graduated from East View High School. Both are graduates of Texas State University, go Bobcats!

I am so excited about this school year! My goals are to create a community of learners, who feel confident in taking risks during their learning process, and to instill a love of learning that will last throughout your child's life.
