Our Principals
Charlotte Young

I am thrilled to work with such a dedicated staff and community that make Carver a great place for students to learn and grow.
I have 13+ years of experience in education with a strong passion for academic excellence and personal growth in a safe and inclusive learning environment. I have previously served as a kindergarten teacher, fourth grade teacher, and assistant principal on two different campuses in a neighboring district. I entered teaching non-traditionally by completing my bachelor’s degree from The University of Texas at Austin (Hook ‘Em, Horns!) 15 years after graduating high school. This break allowed me to approach my education with life and work experiences outside of teaching. This has greatly shaped my work ethic, commitment, communication skills, and passion for the field of education. I have my master’s degree from Texas State University in educational leadership and hope to continue in a doctoral program in the future.
I am a native Texan, born in Austin and raised in San Antonio and Austin. My partner, William, and I have raised three children. As a family, we enjoy traveling, trying new foods, and playing games. Personally, I enjoy reading, writing, trivia games, watching TV and movies, and spending time with friends and family.
At Carver, my goal is to build upon and continue the existing culture of excellence and achievement, and to work collaboratively with our exceptional staff to provide an enriching educational experience for all students. I believe in fostering a positive and inclusive school culture that celebrates student success in all areas, promotes positive relationships, and values the unique talents and contributions of every individual.
I firmly believe that open communication and collaboration are essential to student success, and I encourage families to actively engage in their child’s education and participate in the vibrant school community at Carver Elementary. Throughout the school year, you can expect regular updates on important events, academic achievements, and extracurriculars through newsletters, emails, and updates on our school website. I also encourage you to attend school activities and functions, as your involvement is vital to the success of our students.
Please feel free to reach out to me at 512-943-5070 or youngc2@georgetownisd.org if you have any questions, concerns, or simply want to introduce yourself.
Desiree Jez
I was born and raised in South Texas, and my journey in education began in 2006 in Premont, where I taught fourth grade. After moving to the Killeen area, I spent six wonderful years teaching second and third grades before making my way to Georgetown. There, I taught third grade at Cooper Elementary for four years before stepping into leadership as assistant principal at Pickett Elementary—and now, I’m proud to serve as the assistant principal here at George Washington Carver Elementary.
I earned my Bachelor’s degree in Marketing from Texas A&M University–Kingsville and later completed my Master’s in Educational Administration from Texas A&M University–Commerce. Before becoming an educator, I worked in auditing and accounting for local governments—a background that’s helped shape my perspective and approach in schools.
I’m married to my college sweetheart, Travis, and we have a wonderful daughter named Hadley who keeps us on our toes—along with our rambunctious goldendoodle, Rhett.
It’s truly an honor to be part of the Carver Elementary community, and I’m excited to continue growing, learning, and leading alongside our incredible students, staff, and families.
